1. Pet Sematary by Stephen King

Of course, we had to start with a classic!
The Creeds moved into an old rural home. Life seems too good to be accurate as they seem like the picture-perfect family, but they eventually encounter endless horrors within their neighbourhood.
This book was adapted into a classic film back in 1983.
2. All Good People Here: A Novel by Ashley Flowers

From Crime Junkie podcast host to a debut author, Flowers’ published her first book in 2022.
A journalist uncovers her hometown’s hidden secrets the moment she became obsessed with the case of her childhood neighbour—and the disappearance of another girl twenty years later.
3. The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty

Who couldn’t resist another classic?
If the classic horror movie The Exorcist rings a bell, you might appreciate going through the whole story of the book.
Chris MacNeil, an actress and divorced mother, starts to experience difficulties when her sweet-natured daughter becomes afflicted with convulsions, spasms, and unusual amnesiac episodes. When medical science got baffled by the case, they had to resort to finding a specialist from the Church.
4. A Flicker in the Dark by Stacy Willingham

Stacy’s debut novel for 2022 is about Chloe Davis, who lived in a small Louisiana town where six teenage girls went missing.
At the end of summer, her father confessed to the crime and ended up being put away for life. Chloe is trying to grasp the truth and move forward during the aftermath.
5. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

We all know the iconic figure Frankenstein because of how they portray him in the media.
That name was actually from the mad scientist who created the creature. Shelley’s 1818 classic is about the story of Victor Frankenstein, a Swiss medical student who brought an artificial man to life. Eventually, the creature turns against its creator.
6. Hocus Pocus: The Illustrated Novelization Illustrated by Gris Grimly

The Hocus Pocus movie just recently debuted its second movie, and seeing the Sanderson sisters is such a nostalgia trip!
This illustrated book is an excellent way to put you into a spooky mood.
7. The Turn of The Screw by Henry James

This novella is about a governess who tries desperately to protect her children from evil as they start experiencing strange encounters at a remote country house.
It was also adapted into a T.V. film back in 2009.
8. The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe

This classic by Poe is a short story but still has the perfect element to give you a bit of the spook!
It’s about a man taking a deadly revenge plot against a friend, who he believes has insulted him.
9. Malice House by Megan Shepherd

One of the N.Y. Times best-selling authors, Shepherd, introduces the story of Haven.
After her failed marriage, she thought it might be good to get herself busy rather than be constantly bothered by her haunted past. She wanted to collaborate with her father on illustrated Bedtime Stories book, thinking it could jumpstart her art career.
10. The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James

Receptionist by day. True crime junkie by night.
Beth Greer finds herself in a situation she wasn’t supposed to be involved. She comes across a Lady Killer, hoping to get an interview with her.
